Towa Settles Into New Mount Edgecombe Head Office in KwaZulu-Natal

Towa, the South African provider of cloud-based point of sale software and hardware for retail and hospitality businesses, has moved its KwaZulu-Natal head office to a bigger space at 9 Fairways Avenue, Mount Edgecombe. The new premises give the company more room to meet customers, run product demonstrations and look after the shops, restaurants and coffee bars that rely on its systems every trading day. With October here and the final quarter of 2026 setting the pace for year-end trade, the move comes at a practical moment for business owners who want to see a new system working in person before the busiest weeks of the year arrive.

The company has long called the province home. Towa began as S A Cash Register, established in 1972, and set up a Natal company in Glenashley, Durban, early in its history. Over the decades it moved from mechanical and electronic Towa cash registers into software, founded its own software department, opened a retail shop in Durban and, more recently, launched cloud-based platforms for both retail and hospitality. Trading today as Towa Data Systems, the business describes itself as one of South Africa's major retail and hospitality software providers.

A bigger base for demos, training and support

For many owners, choosing a point of sale system is a decision they prefer to make face to face. The Mount Edgecombe office gives Towa's retail and hospitality specialists a larger space in which to show the software on real hardware, talk through a business's needs and answer questions before anything is installed. Customers can request a demo through the website or call the team directly.

Training has always been part of the Towa approach. The company provides in-house and on-location training, and its Nimbus back office software comes with staff training on site or off site, depending on what suits the customer. Repairs and maintenance are handled on Towa's own premises under the supervision of its technical director, and the company offers a yearly maintenance plan on its POS equipment. A bigger head office supports all of that work, from workshop repairs to the onboarding of new clients.

The head office is open Monday to Thursday from 8am to 5pm and on Fridays from 8am to 4pm.

Retail software built for more than one store

Towa Stratus is the company's multi-outlet retail and inventory management platform. It runs in the cloud, so owners can see their business from anywhere, and it keeps working offline when the connection drops. Stratus is designed to scale from a single store to hundreds of stores.

The feature set reflects the day-to-day needs of South African retailers. Debtor balances and purchases are available in real time at any till in any store. Loyalty programmes can be run directly at the till without paying for third-party products. Mix and match promotions, such as buy one get one free or a discount on a third item, can be set up to keep pace with competitors, and promotional sales are grouped together on the end-of-day report. Stratus is linked to most financial switches, including FNB, SBSA, iVeri, Nomad and Transaction Junction, as well as Blue Label and Glocell for airtime sales.

Towa lists butcheries, supermarkets, bottle stores, pet shops, jewellery shops and fruit and veg stores among the business types Stratus serves. For a retailer heading into the festive season with new promotions to run, a pos system that handles specials and stock across branches without manual workarounds can make a real difference at the counter.

Hospitality software for restaurants, bars and coffee shops

On the hospitality side, Towa's Fusion software covers order entry, table control, deliveries, inventory and reporting. Order entry menus can be customised to suit each venue, and the system stores a customer's previous order history along with the full product list. Orders can be moved from one table to another with a few taps. For delivery operations, Fusion tracks each driver's sales, delivery charges and commission, and uses address auto-complete to cut down on capturing errors.

Fusion's stock tools give real-time updates on what is on hand, helping owners manage shrinkage and wastage. Its reporting shows best sellers by item, captures incoming and outgoing costs from synced sales data, and helps managers spot where wage costs can be trimmed. Features listed on the Towa site include phone and sit-down orders, online ordering, kitchen display screens, order status screens, combos, happy hour pricing, Zapper and EFT integration, table reservations, mobile app ordering and loyalty integration.

For new small businesses, Towa offers Fusion Express, a newer package with the core Fusion functionality and limited stock control options. Coffee shops, restaurants, fast food outlets, bars, ice cream stores and night clubs are among the venue types Towa supports.

One back office across every site

Towa Nimbus Back Office ties the operation together. It is cloud based, so inventory and sales can be managed from any location with an internet connection, Wi-Fi or a mobile hotspot. It suits single sites, multi-site restaurant groups and larger retail organisations, with multi-user accounts that carry different levels of security access. Multi-site business reports help owners compare performance across branches, and larger groups can ask Towa about bespoke development.

Hardware backed by a long partnership

Software is only half of a pos point of sale system. Towa has partnered with Senor Tech since 2009 on all-in-one touch POS terminals that connect to printers, scanners, scales, video and menu boards. The wider hardware range includes electronic cash registers, handheld and in-counter barcode scanners, high and medium duty cash drawers, receipt and barcode printers, customer displays, card readers, weighing scales and Hikvision CCTV systems for multi-site shopping areas. Supplying the full set from one provider means a single point of contact when something needs attention.

Rental options for new and growing businesses

Cash flow is often the deciding factor for a new store or restaurant. Towa makes its packages available on a fixed-cost rental basis from R999 per month, aimed at owners who are short on start-up cash. The company is also currently offering 10% off its installation fee to customers who get in touch.

Offices across Southern Africa

Alongside the new Mount Edgecombe head office, Towa runs a Cape Town office at North Park, 2 Fir Street, Black River Park, Observatory, and an international office through Swazi Cash Register in Eswatini. All three can be reached on the same national number. Existing customers can log support requests through the Towa support portal.
